General information for the course
Courses for Qualification “Captain of a Vessel up to 40 GT at Sea”
The courses are held in the city of Varna under the guidance of our experienced instructors.
Exams are conducted under the supervision of the Executive Agency “Maritime Administration.”
The course consists of two main modules: theoretical and practical.
Theoretical classes are conducted according to a schedule that is individually tailored for each course.
Practical classes are held according to a pre-established plan.
We are the first school in Bulgaria accredited by the maritime administration for the course “Driver on a ship up to 40 BT at sea”
The training program: Part 1 Theoretical section
The training is conducted twice a week. The total duration of the theoretical sessions is approximately 4-5 weeks. During the training, you will gain the following knowledge:
Theory and structure of the ship
The study of the basic principles of the ship's design, its structure and the functioning of the main systems
Navigation
The study of methods for determining the location of the vessel, laying routes and orientation in the open sea using navigation tools and maps
Cartography
The study of methods for creating and using nautical charts for navigation and location determination in the marine environment.
Hydrography and meteorology
Studying the characteristics of water bodies, currents, tides, as well as weather conditions and their impact on navigation
Ship handling and maneuverability
The study of methods for controlling the movement of the vessel, performing maneuvers and ensuring stability on the course in various conditions.
Sailing, sailing maneuvers
Learning sailing ship management skills
Navigation safety
Study of methods and procedures aimed at preventing accidents and ensuring the safe movement of ships along waterways
Maritime law. International Regulations for Preventing Collisions at Sea
The study of legal norms and standards governing activities at sea.
Technical training
Study of the principles of operation and maintenance of ship systems and equipment
The training program: Part 2 The practical part
The practical part of the lessons takes place on the boat of our yacht school. During the training, the following skills are acquired:
Control of a motorboat
Learning the skills and techniques needed to drive a motorboat safely and efficiently
Arrival and removal from the pier
The study of skills and techniques, the process of maneuvering a ship when entering and exiting a port
Sea knots
The study of rope tying techniques used in navigation for various purposes such as fastening, fixing and managing rigging
Exam
After completing the training program, each candidate takes two exams: the first is an internal exam, and the second is before the examination commission of the Maritime Administration.
Internal Exam
Part One: Theory and navigation tasks.
Part Two: Practical skills in operating a motor vessel.
Exam before the Maritime Administration
The exam before the agency is conducted in the form of a test on the International Regulations for Preventing Collisions at Sea (COLREGs 72), navigation, maritime law, regulatory documents, and technical training.
After successfully passing the exam, you will receive:
International Certificate – Skipper
An international document that confirms the qualification and right of a person to operate sailing or motor vessels of a certain tonnage
Maritime competent person
A person who has the appropriate knowledge and qualifications to perform certain functions on board the vessel
Transportation of up to 12 people, including the crew, on board the vessel
A person who has the appropriate knowledge and qualifications to perform certain functions on board the ship, the skipper has the right to operate a vessel on which no more than 12 people can be on board.
Captain of a vessel up to 40 gross tons at sea for sports, tourism, sport fishing, and recreation
A qualification that allows a person to operate a marine vessel of a certain tonnage, taking into account its purpose
Sailor on Bulgarian and foreign ships
A qualification that allows a person to work on ships registered both in Bulgaria and abroad.
