Good Captain Sailing Academy — Registration and Cancellation Policy
Selecting the Appropriate Course
The Good Captain curriculum consists of 14 sessions, divided into two progressively structured courses, accredited by ISSA:
• Crew
• Inshore Skipper
Course outlines detailing the skills and knowledge covered at each level are available at ggsailing.com. Students should choose the course that matches their level of sailing experience.
• Students with little or no sailing experience are strongly advised to begin with the Crew course.
• Students with previous sailing experience may register for Inshore Skipper.
• Students may also repeat any course for additional practice or confidence building.
Students are advised not to register for an advanced course solely to expedite training or due to limited availability. Good Captain reserves the right to remove students from a course without refund if their skills are found to be unsuitable for the selected course.
Pre-Course Requirements for All Students
To participate in any Good Captain course, students must complete the following before the first class:
- Complete the Good Captain Pre-Sail Orientation (PSO) online course.
- Provide proof of fundamental sailing knowledge and terminology by completing the NauticEd online course and passing the final test.
(Please note: This course is registered and paid for separately at nauticed.com).
Students who do not complete the required pre-course work before the start date will be withdrawn from the course without a refund.
Course Pacing and Attendance Policy
Students are expected to progress through courses in the proper order: Crew → Inshore Skipper. Registering for two courses with overlapping dates is not permitted. Students doing so may be removed from one or both courses.
Once a student has begun a course, no refunds will be issued for partial completion or mid-course withdrawal.
- Students arriving 15 minutes or more late to any session may be marked as a no-show and not allowed to participate in that session.
- Students are expected to comply with all safety instructions and follow the captain’s orders. Non-compliance or arriving unprepared may result in removal from the course, cancellation of the training day, or denial of boarding.
- Repeated safety violations or multiple no-shows may result in dismissal from the program with no refund and no opportunity to resume the course.
Weather-Related Cancellations, Make-Up Classes & Refunds
Class sessions will be canceled at the instructor’s discretion if weather conditions are unsafe or violate Good Captain operating standards. Each course includes:
- 6 scheduled training sessions
- 1 reserved make-up session
The make-up session will only be conducted if one of the six core sessions is canceled. No additional make-up sessions will be arranged beyond the seventh class date.
Refund policy based on course completion:
- Courses that complete 5 or more sessions are considered finished and not eligible for refund.
- Courses with 4 completed sessions will be considered finished, and students will receive the Crew certification, included in the course fee.
- Courses with fewer than 2 completed sessions due to weather-related cancellations are eligible for a full refund minus a €150 administrative fee.
Promotional Discounts and Offers
From time to time, Good Captain may offer promotional discounts or special offers. Please note:
• Any refunds or changes made to a course purchased under a promotion are subject to the terms and conditions of that specific promotion.
• Refund amounts may be adjusted to reflect the value of the promotional discount applied at the time of booking.
• Promotions may include validity periods, usage limits, or eligibility criteria, which students are responsible for reviewing prior to enrollment.
• Promotions may be modified or discontinued at any time, but all valid offers at the time of registration will be honored as communicated.
Please note: If the course was purchased using a promotional discount or special offer, no refund will be issued, regardless of when the Drop Class Form is submitted. Promotional enrollments are final and non-refundable, as outlined in the terms and conditions of each offer.
Dropping a Course
To ensure fair access to limited class space, students are encouraged to finalize their schedules before registering.
Students who need to cancel their enrollment must complete the Drop Class Form:
• If received at least 90 days prior to the course start date, students will receive a full refund minus a €150 administrative fee.
• If received less than 90 days before the course begins, no refund will be issued.
Students may not transfer or resell their spot to another individual. Vacated spots will be offered first to students on the waitlist, then to the public.
